Those of you who haven't should read this article,
it's very encouraging to no-essers on several levels.
1) There is a striking difference (8% obesity rate vs.
33%) and better meal habits (very similar to no-s) are
an obvious explanation.
2) Not only is this effective in terms of weight
control, but who eats *better* than the French?
There's a reason "gastronomy," "cuisine," "dinner,"
and yes, "dessert" are all loan words from the French
(and it's not *just* what happened in 1066). Since I
assume that most of us here like to eat, or we
wouldn't be overweight, this is a material
consideration.
In fairness, though, the article doesn't mention that
supreme gallic diet aide: beaucoup des cigarettes --
not that we U.S. Americans have any right to be smug:
French life expectancy, smoking and all, is 79.44
years, ours just 77.43 (2004).
