My observation has been that food journals are fascinating for a bit and then become an onerous chore. By treating food as points or calories, a mere quantity, journals degrade your pleasure in eating while at the same time making you obsessed about it. If you want to keep track of something, try slashing out strict "days on habit" on a calendar until you get it down. This focuses on what is really important, and doesn't take nearly as much time.
