Hi Reinhard, Exactly my problem. I try not to start now. once I start, there is no shut-off valve. I was not like that before. But i thk i developed this habit since I started stressed under about a year back. And it is unconcious or subconcious. I noticed it only recently. When i was not stressed, I didn't have to eat. My question is: Does it matter what the cause for overeating is? Do we have to get to the root of the problem or we can just use the noSdiet to guide us into changing to better habits? And i hate eating socially now as i can't eat the way i want to. So you are rite on the nail, Reinhard. I will take your adivce. no seconds. And some of my friends always tell themselves they are very full, even after eating very little. Maybe that's a very good trick?! And Purpledy1, how long does it take you to get to where you are? Do you eat regularly? I mean 3 meals a day? Recently i developed a habit of eating very little in the day and have a very big vegetarian dinner in the evening. Is that acceptable? Would like to hear from you! I am glad that I have a group for support. I think I can change to be better now. -- tze ----- Original Message ----- From: Reinhard Engels <beautiful_idiot@...> Date: Fri, 28 May 2004 04:42:24 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [nosdiet] Welcome tze; right on Melanie To: Welcome, Tze. Seconds were my big problem too. By nature (or years of bad habits) I didn't have a shut off valve once I got started. Big firsts were the key to weaning myself off seconds. Once I had that down, it was relatively easy to scale down the portions. Social eating helps here: the fact that you've put so much on your plate is embarrassing (never mind that you used to eat much more in multiple servings), and embarrassment is a *very* potent incentive. Melanie, if your follow-through is anywhere near as good as your perception is clear, I'm not worried about you at all. You hit it on the nail here: "NoS isn't about willpower versus habit, it's about using your willpower to change bad habits into better habits." Remember the elephant tamer analogy. Good luck you both, and keep these posts coming, Reinhard --- tzemin <tzemin@...> wrote: > Hi Purpledy1 and All, > > Thanks so much.
