 dear bruxa
Jay robbs book have low carb menus for vegetarians
using tofu and protein powders etc.. you might want to read a copy of his
book his new book conforms with this diet pretty well as it allows only
three meals and NO snacks and no sugar . so it could work hand in hand

Hi Bruxa

I started following the Atkins diet some years ago and lost about 15lbs
on
it very easily. Since then I have not been rigourous in following it and
at
times some weight creeps back on so I'll either low carb again or try
another approach (such as NoS which I really like!) until I'm back on track
again.

Typically, while I was in the weight-loss phase, a day's eating would be:

Breakfast: Bacon and eggs
Lunch: Roast chicken portion, mixed salad with oil/vinegar dressing
Dinner: Smoked salmon, roast lamb with green beans, cheese with celeryand/or
peppers

No bread, no pasta, no rice, no potatoes, no cakes, no biscuits, no pastries

It's not a difficult diet to do but in the long-run I find that I miss
toast
and other crunchy food too much to keep it up! (Toast - one of my all-time
favourite foods!)

If you're tempted to do it then I would strongly recommend that you buy
either the Atkins book or one of the similar plans and read it thoroughly
before starting on it. I would also recommend Eat Right 4 Your Type which
considers which diet is appropriate for your own blood type. His theory
appears to hold true for myself and a number of friends, including the
one
who cannot bear low-carbohydrate dieting.

Back on the real topic of this list again:

I really like the NoS approach. I find that I can happily go through the
week without snacks or sweets because I know that I can have them at the
weekend, it's not a 'forever' ban which is too big a concept for me to
handle. However, when the weekend comes... I find I'm not that bothered
about eating them. Maybe because they're legal and not forbidden fruit???

Thanks to Reinhard for inventing this method :-D

Best of luck, hth

Alison

you excrete ketones in your urine. Atkins describes this state as
Benign Dietary Ketosis and advises that you can test for it using
Ketostix, available at pharmacists and usually used by diabetics.
I've heard on another newsgroup that for optimum weight loss you
should not go deep into ketosis (deep purple on the sticks) but stay
on the initial margins of ketosis (pale pink).

diets of the Inouit, the Masaai and other such groups who survive
(indeed, thrive!) on very low carbohydrate diets that only supports
a lot of the current thinking regarding cholesterol levels etc.

one diet suits all. A friend of mine cannot stand low-carbing and
feels physically sick whenever she tries it - perhaps the Eat Right
for Your Blood Type approach has something to offer here?

not.

you reduce your carbs to that level you may have a hard time ever
adding them back to your diet.. i had the book but lent it ot my
chriopractor and never got it back :)
