If your bodyfat is higher than about 12% for a man or 20% for a woman (very approximate, depends on your genetic fat-storage tendencies--i.e. waist vs. hips aka "apple vs. pear" or android vs. gynoid) you're not going to have abs, period. So before you bother with isolation exercises, you should focus on the basics while cutting your bodyfat low enough. If you get down to a low enough bodyfat, and you still don't have defined abs (look at a marathon runner for an example of this) you need to work on building up the neuromuscular tone (and maybe a bit of hypertrophy--i.e. size building--so they pop out a bit more). Then they'll pop. Until you're a low enough bodyfat percentage, no amount of situps, bicycles, reverse crunches, etc. is going to make your abs show. That's the bottom line. Once you get low enough, then it's time to start thinking that way. In terms of getting your bodyfat percentage lower, Shovelglove is a good solution (along with Urban Ranger and NOS) and will strengthen your abs somewhat while you're getting there. I hope that clears things up. Dan __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hotjobs: Enter the "Signing Bonus" Sweepstakes http://hotjobs.sweepstakes.yahoo.com/signingbonus |
