I do love the idea of slashing the calendar - it's easy, simple and it gives me the visual of what I have already accomplished when I may be tempted to S. Yes, "everyday systems" shouldn't involve keeping track of things, but this is minimal and temporary. Slashing doesn't take much effort, and one you've got the habit down you stop.
